We hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving! Today is GivingTuesday, a “global generosity movement”.
We write with an update on our early childhood literacy project in Baltimore with St. Vincent De Paul Early Head Start and Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library. We are so grateful for your continued support that has made it possible for PKP Chapter 22 UM-UMBC to sustain our early childhood literacy program. All through the pandemic your donation has kept a book every month going to our pre-K children in the Park Heights community.
Thanks to your past support, more than 50 children have “graduated” to kindergarten after receiving books to read at home from our program, and 23 children are currently receiving books that help them to develop a love of reading, learning, and language. We hope this year to add 30 more children to the program. Research and evaluation studies show that supporting literacy and learning in early childhood is one of the best ways to prepare children to succeed in school and in life.
We hope you will be able to continue helping us to bring joy to a child's life and encourage a life-long love of reading and learning.
