Do you qualify? Time is of the essence!

Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) can cancel the entire remaining balance of federal student loans for public servants after they have made payments for 120 months. For years, the program has been plagued by confusing rules and sky-high rejection rates.
Temporarily relaxed rules implemented in late 2021 have led to a fifty-fold increase in PSLF approvals. Many of the relaxed rules are still in effect but will expire after April 30, 2024.
UMBC is a qualifying employer for the PSLF Program. Faculty (full-time and adjunct), administrators, and staff members may be eligible to benefit from PSLF--and those who have had loans for more than ten years might benefit more quickly than others.
We are hosting a free webinar, Keys to Loan Forgiveness for University Employees, on April 3 @ 11 AM to explain the rules of PSLF and how to apply.
Attendees will learn how to:
- determine which loans are eligible
- bring loans out of default and on track for PSLF
- maximize benefits before the relaxed rules expire
- Username and password for studentaid.gov
- Employment start date
- Average number of hours you are contractually obligated to work per week (for adjunct faculty, use a multiplier of 3.35 hours worked per 1 credit hour taught)
