I Love STEM Event: Volunteers needed!!
A GREAT VOLUNTEERING OPPORTUNITY HAS JUST OPENED UP.
Lockheed Martin is working closely with Elementary to plan a 'I Love STEM Day' event. The event is scheduled for Friday, February 26, 2016.
Featherbed Lane Elementary is located at 6700Richardson Road, Baltimore, Maryland 21207. There are approximately 630 students in grades K-5 that attend the school.
We would like to have a few engineering students (7-10 or more) from University of Maryland Baltimore County (UMBC) to share some of their experiences with students through interactive demonstrations as well as providing support at one of the 7-8 STEM stations that will be available to students during the day. In addition, we would like to have the engineering students assist with conducting several classroom activities during the day. We are encouraging the volunteers to come up with ideas (via their own classroom work, projects, experiences, etc.) for engaging students in the classroom. Finally, we would like to have several of the engineering students to share their personal experiences (e.g. what sparked their interest in engineering?; who were some of the people that influenced/encouraged them to pursue a career in engineering? etc.) with students during 2 assemblies that will be held for students during the day. The assembly with be for approximately 1 hour. Classroom activities with last for ~45 minutes to an hour. The event is almost a full day starting at 8 am with assemblies and STEM stations and concluding with the classroom visits which are usually done by 3 pm.
