Do you know how to use a soldering iron or want to learn? You can do that, help the community and gain a mentoring experience!
Shayda Shahbazi, former President of SWE at GWU, founded a non-profit organization called MademoiSTEM with intentions of attracting high school girls to STEM majors in college. MademoiSTEM is bringing 12 girls from Catonsville High School to UMBC to each them to use soldering irons. In the past, MademoiSTEM hassoldered projects like this - (http://www.abra-electronics.com/product_images/e/505/k-36__96869_zoom.jpg). This is a project funded by MademoiSTEM that the high school girls can take home, with the goal of encouraging the girls to go into STEM fields.
Shayda needs 12 volunteers from UMBC SWE to work with these girls. Sign up ASAP to ensure that you can be involved. The first 12 people to sign up will be a mentor, and anyone after that will be an assistant or alternate mentor.
