Featured alumni panelists:
Stuart Z. Cohen
President of Environmental & Turf Services, Inc.
University of Maryland Baltimore County, BA in Chemistry, 1975
George Washington University, Ph.D. in Physical Organic Chemistry, 1984
After a brief time in immunology research, Dr. Stuart Cohen has worked for over 35 years as an environmental scientist, including 11 years with the U.S. EPA. He never intended to be an entrepreneur, but after witnessing the owners of his post-EPA company do morally and professionally questionable practices, he literally said to himself, “I can do better than this.” He went to a library and took out a book on starting a new business, then began Environmental & Turf Services (ETS) four months later, January 1, 1991. His firm specializes in environmental risk assessments, with a focus on pesticides, nutrients, and heavy metals. He has presented and/or published more than 70 papers, posters, and book chapters in the field of environmental chemistry and risk assessment.
Francisco Ward
Owner of Seton Pain and Rehabilitation Center (SPRC)
University of Maryland Baltimore County, BA in Psychology, 1987
Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine, Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine, June 1992
Dr. Francisco Ward was raised in the Baltimore area and traveled the world before the age of seven. He has been working since High School in multiple capacities from construction to neurophysiology. He attended UMBC between the years 1982-1986 graduating with a BA in Psychology 1987.
He applies the art of medicine to caring for people in an occupational medicine environment who are making slow functional recoveries from injuries they received on the job. Dr. Ward was recognized with the highly coveted award of “Top Doc” in December 2010 by Baltimore Magazine in the field of Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation. He is the owner of Seton Pain and Rehabilitation Center (SPRC). Although his practice of medicine is primarily limited to that of a specialist, he functions as a team leader overseeing SPRC core components to ensure that the SPRC mission is upheld. He fosters the driving vision of SPRC into each employee. Dr. Ward’s Business of Medicine training helps him balance quality as measured by the patient, the employer, and the community.
