Team Based Learning Workshop
Learn how to design group work that really works
Wednesday, May 23, 2012 · 10 AM - 4 PM
Have you begun to think that lecturing alone isn’t producing the kind of learning you want from your students? Have you tried group work with only mixed results? And regardless of how you teach, do you find that students aren’t preparing for class? If so, come explore an exciting solution to these issues, Team-Based Learning (TBL). Using TBL to demonstrate TBL, this workshop will be facilitated by the Faculty Development Center (FDC), Division of Information Technology (DoIT) and UMBC faculty who’ve taught with TBL. Lunch and a copy of Team-Based Learning: A Transformative Use of Small Groups in College Teaching (2004), will be provided to registered participants.
Note: To demo the Readiness Assurance Process (RAP), which is a key component of TBL, there will be a quiz over the following chapters in the TBL book (open web, pdf versions of the chapter manuscripts are linked below):
- Ch. 1, "Beyond Small Groups: Harnessing the Extraordinary Power of Learning Teams" by L. Dee Fink.
- Ch.2, "Getting Started with Team-Based Learning" by Larry K. Michaelsen.
