Oseh Shalom is a Reconstructionist synagogue located in Laurel, MD. We use interactive, modern, and values-based curricula in order to engage and inspire our young learners. Candidates should be comfortable working with diverse children and families. They should have a strong Judaic base as well as a creative ability to think outside the box and commitment toward teaching the next generation.

Sunday Torah Cantillation/Bnai Mitzvah Prep Teacher, Fall 2022
We are looking for a dynamic, caring and skilled teacher who can teach our small class of (insightful and well-behaved) bnai mitzvah prep students. The Bnai Mitzvah Prep Teacher plays an important role at the school. The class includes teaching an introduction to trope, tefillot, Torah study, and orienting students to what a bar/bat mitzvah and growing up is all about. We are located just outside the beltway and off 95. Oseh Shalom Religious School work hours are Sunday mornings (September to May on-site). Class time will also include a one month look at the Shoah using Jonathan Sarna’s Jewish history book. Salary is competitive and includes a half hour of paid prep time per class.
Modern Hebrew Teacher/Specialist – Once a Month Sundays AND Substitute Teachers
We are looking for a dynamic, caring and skilled teacher who can teach all ages Modern Hebrew during our monthly electives Sunday mornings. (September to May). (The children receive additional instruction with the lead teacher during the month.)
We use the Hebrew Proficiency Approach taught at Middlebury College. The approach focuses on relevant, fun, and interactive methods of teaching Modern Hebrew. The candidate would need to be open to receiving training in this method and work collaboratively with an Israeli Hebrew teacher.
Priority will be given to Hebrew instructors who have experience with this or similar methods and who have advanced Modern Hebrew skills. We would welcome a specialist with extensive experience or a younger teacher who will take the lead from our lead teacher.
We are also looking for substitutes on Sundays who can teach all ages in Judaics and Hebrew reading (with a lesson plan from the teacher). The school meets on Sundays from 9 – 11:30 a.m.
