Hello, Retrievers!
We hope that each of you had a productive and rewarding semester filled with experiences of joy, transformative lessons, and academic excellence. The finish line is near, and as you enter into finals, remember to take care of yourselves and tend to your own humanity.
We wanted to take a moment to highlight some of the work the Student Government Association has done over the semester and to thank you for your partnership in making much of it happen.
Firstly, the bodies of work coming out of the executive branch included:
- Developing Sustainable Research Microgrant Award (partnership with the Vice President of Research),
- Writing a letter to Dr. Hrabowksi and other key administrators about the need to fill student-facing staff vacancies,
- Hosting a second SGA therapy pet event that had 300 participants,
- Collaborating with i3b, Division of Student Affairs, and student organizations to support students needing space for religious practices,
- Hosting a multi-day leadership development program in partnership with OCA Mocha,
- Codifying a Diversity Equity and Inclusion Audit Rubric to evaluate the organization’s inclusion work,
- Issuing a COVID-19 mitigation measures survey with 200+ respondents
- Redeveloping the ProveIt initiative to fund student-led initiatives for community impact
Out of the Legislative Branch:
- Our senate has continued to represent the entire undergraduate population on Shared Governance Committees. It has also hosted community-wide programs, such as Snacks and Mental Health Chats, as a part of the University Steering Committee’s Mental Health Community Action Day.
- Our Finance Board has allocated about $165,000 to student organizations and continues to work with groups to support them as they plan for next semester.
Finally, out of our Judicial Branch:
- The Election Board facilitated an election with 33 candidates, 8 events, and 897 votes. Based on those numbers, it is easy to say this was our most successful election in a number of years.
On May 4, 2022, we inaugurated the winners of the SGA election and would like to introduce to you your new officers:
- President: Ayra Hussain
- Executive Vice President: Shubhi Saxena
- Vice President for Student Organizations: Hediyah Sadeq
- Treasurer: Abdel Nasser
- Senators: Mohamed Nasser, Menna Nasser, Fatima Wajid, Fairine Ahmed, Yassin Elalamy, Dharma Bhatt, Joshua Le, Arian Nyandjo, Kojo Benefo, Zoonash Syed, Shakira Scott-Harris.
- Finance Board Representatives: Maheera Chaudhry, Raif Mahmood, Fiona Tolentino, Ousmane Dio, George Ndasi, Sadia Alvi, Rachael Khai
With that said, we absolutely can not thank you enough for all of your support and continued investment in SGA. Our purpose is to support undergraduate interests, and we can not do that without your participation, so thank you!
Yours in service,
Student Government Association
Joshua Gray, SGA President
Sruthi Ramesh, Executive Vice President
Ayah Aligabi, Treasurer
Nailah-Bena Chambers, Vice President for Student Organizations
