Good Afternoon Retrievers! Even though getting through this part of the school is no easy feat, we do have some news that will hopefully ease this very struggle.
Free hours on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays (12-1 PM) will be returning this coming Fall semester!
The notion of “free hour” dates all the way back to 1970, when a few UMBC students formed a union to act as an alternative source of advocacy. This union had made three notable requests to the Faculty Senate, with the third, being the implementation of a free, unscheduled hour. Such was eventually granted, though it was later removed.
Free hours are imperative for student organizations and assemblies to gather with ease, and may also serve as a brief hour of repose between courses. That being established, we hope you all make the best use of this hour starting next semester!
Good luck and finish the semester strong!
