Welcome to our Weekly Study Tip post! This week is about dealing with pesky roadblocks, whether they're academic, social, emotional, or otherwise.
You can check out our weekly YouTube video on this topic here. We hope you find it helpful!
1. Roadblocks will always happen! Your mindset is what helps you get around them. Try to put yourself in a growth mindset - don't let them get you down for too long. Look for solutions by asking for help.
2. When talking yourself through a solution, pretend you are talking to a friend. It's easy to be hard on yourself - it's much easier to be kind to another person. Imagine what you'd say to your best friend if they came to you with the same problem. Give yourself the same advice!
3. Tips for getting around some common roadblocks in college:
- Bad grade on the first test in a STEM course? Your high school study methods might not be the right thing for a college class! Have a chat with your professor and ask for study tips, or consider making an appointment with CNMS Student Success Coach Emma Barnaby
- Totally overwhelmed with everything going on in your life? Think about what to put on the back burner each week, and rotate things around. If you're really stressed out, you can talk to a mental health professional on campus (at no cost to you).
- Feeling lonely or isolated? Join a club on campus to meet some friends with similar interests to yours! This is a great way to make some lasting friendships and have some *real* fun - this will help you avoid academic burnout.
