Welcome to our Weekly Study Tip post! This week is about creating strong habits that will help you stay the course all semester. This week we will be highlighting Group Study as a technique to get more out of your course content, improve your creative problem-solving and collaboration skills, and ultimately boost your performance in STEM courses.
You can check out our weekly YouTube video on this topic here! Some tips and tricks include:
1. Come up with an AGENDA for your study group. It helps to always do the same thing, like work through a weekly problem set or talk through a reading guide for your course. This way, you have a set goal for the session and you're more likely to stay on track and be able to notice progress over time.
2. Schedule a little bit of SOCIAL TIME at the end of your time together. This helps you stay focused during the actual study session, because you know you'll have a little bit of time to socialize with your friends afterwards.
3. WORK TOGETHER! Collaboration is really important for improving your creative problem-solving skills. Working with others will help you learn to see solutions from different angles. Plus, everyone benefits: those who are struggling with the material will have an improved understanding and new perspective, while those who are very familiar with the material get the advantage of teaching it to someone else, which bolsters retention.
