During this holiday season, our PKP chapter recognizes all the things we are thankful for, and we are always grateful for the support of our members who continue to care deeply about those in our community.
Over the past ten years, our chapter partnered with the Dolly Parton Imagination Library and St. Vincent De Paul Early Head Start in Baltimore to provide monthly books to children from birth to age five to celebrate PKP’s literacy vision. During those years, members and friends of our chapter have donated over $14,000 in sponsorship of children in Baltimore’s Park Heights community.
This year we have launched a new connection with Home Instruction for Parents of Preschool Youngsters (HIPPY). HIPPY is a partnership program of The George and Betsy Sherman Center at UMBC and HIPPY US, centered in the historic Cherry Hill neighborhood. Through role play and a home visiting model, HIPPY supports caregivers with children ages 2 -5 years as their child’s first and most important teacher. The core value of HIPPY is that learning begins at home, and the program aims to intentionally engage caregivers with community resources, build early connections with school communities, and create a network among caregivers. Over the course of 30 weeks, HIPPY trains and educates caregivers in five domains: language/literacy, math, science, gross motor skills, and social emotional learning with the goal of school readiness.
Research and evaluation studies show that supporting literacy and learning in early childhood is one of the best ways to prepare children to succeed in school and in life. We hope you will be able to help us to bring joy to a child's life and encourage a life-long love of reading and learning. Please consider sponsoring the program in one of the following ways:
A gift of $25 sponsors 3 children a set of 3 paperback early learning books.
A gift of $50 sponsors one child’s HIPPY School Time Box which includes all the HIPPY materials that the parent and child will need for the program.
A gift of $125 sponsors one “Bedtime in a Box” for one child in the program.
A gift of $250 sponsors a family to local museums and events in Baltimore City (Port Discovery, The Maryland Zoo, and Maryland Science Center)
A gift of $500 sponsors one interactive experience for our Family Engagement Sessions.
Our chapter has initiated a donation of $1,000 to start our funding towards HIPPY’s efforts in Baltimore’s Cherry Hill neighborhood. We are hopeful that you, our PKP members and friends, will join us in support of HIPPY.
