Position Description: Scholarship Assistants work in the Office of Financial Aid & Scholarships to assist students and parents with questions about financial aid and UMBC merit scholarships.
Position Duties:
- Duties include providing customer service, answering phone calls, responding to emails sent by students and parents, accepting documents and logging them to students' accounts, connecting students with appropriate campus resources, instructing students and parents on how to navigate myUMBC, the website, Scholarship Retriever, and other duties as assigned.
- Previous experience in financial aid and scholarships is not necessary to apply. However, Scholarship Assistants will go through a rigorous training process and are required to learn a great deal of information about financial aid and merit scholarships at UMBC.
Required Skills:
- Ability to learn and retain large quantities of information and the ability to confidently work with the public.
- Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
- Student Assistants must demonstrate a strong attention to detail, serve as a role model to other students, be reliable, and have strong computer skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Current UMBC Merit Scholar
- Federal Work-Study Eligible
- Availability to work Summer 2022, Fall 2022, and beyond
