Hi Everyone,
Thank you so much to those of you that joined us yesterday for our destress meeting with pan and crochet! See the pictures attached below.
Our next major event will be Immigrant Recognition Day! LHFA and AAAFSC are co-organizing "UMBC Immigrant Recognition Day" again this year with student groups on campus (HLSU, SACNAS, etc.). The event is already scheduled for May 1st and will be a collaboration of faculty, staff, undergraduate, and graduate student organizations.
May 1st 10:00-10:50am, ITE 238 there will be the Graduate Student Panel: "Navigating Grad School as an Immigrant" hosted by the Latinx & Hispanic Graduate Student Association (us), the Black Graduate Student Organization, and the Nigerian Graduate Student Association. A few discussion topics include: 1) what are issues faced by immigrant grad students, 2) how does being an immigrant shape the grad school experience, and 3) how do we build a support system. These is not an exhaustive list, but can serve as a starting point to guide the conversation.
We believe that this panel is key to furthering the mission of the event to recognize those who have immigrated, their journey, and countless contributions to their community, UMBC, and all spaces they are a part of.
