Updated Exempt and Nonexempt Staff Job Posting Templates & Other Process Changes
The HR Talent Acquisition team has updated the job posting templates in PageUp with additional fields and a few changes in wording and format. These changes will assist in recruiting applicants in the current competitive labor market. The new format will help promote our great benefits and highlight how great it is to work at UMBC!
There is one template for nonexempt staff and one for exempt staff positions.
The reduction of available talent in the current US labor market has made recruitment and hiring challenging, particularly for certain fields. To assist with recruitment challenges and to increase our candidate pools, HR has made the following changes to some of our former processes/practices.
Substitution Language - Substitution language will now be included on all nonexempt staff job postings. Applicants may substitute education and/or experience to meet the minimum requirements. The substitution language is included in the job posting template for your convenience.
Exempt Starting Salary - To promote pay transparency, the starting salary (minimum) may be included in the job posting. Nonexempt job postings already list the minimum of the pay range.
Best Consideration Date - It is recommended to not list a best consideration date on the job posting. You may list the position with "Open Until Filled" language only. This will assist in moving quickly to begin reviewing and interviewing qualified candidates. The job postings will remain current and will not look outdated with a best consideration date that has passed. You may still use a best consideration date if desired. You may also use a closing date if desired.
Closing Date for Nonexempt Positions - Nonexempt positions no longer require a hard closing date. Positions may be listed as "Open Until Filled". Human Resources will continue to review the applications for minimum qualifications and forward those meeting qualifications to the hiring department. Review of new applications will be completed approximately twice per week. You will continue to receive email notifications when new applications are ready for review.
Application Review & Interview Process - Applications may now be reviewed as soon as they are received and interviews may be scheduled and conducted on a rolling basis. Hiring Managers are encouraged to move quickly on the search process so as not to lose potential great candidates. Note: An applicant may not be selected for offer approval until the minimum 5 day posting period has passed or the best consideration/closing date has passed (if used).
Minimum Posting Period - The minimum posting period has been reduced from two weeks to five days.
