Grad Students: Writing Seminar (Avoid Errors & Plagiarism!)
A Graduate Student Success Seminar - Food will be served.
Wednesday, November 16, 2011 · 4:30 - 6 PM
On Campus : University Center (UC) 312
Dear Graduate Students,
You are invited to attend a Graduate Student Success Seminar on Writing that will cover common mistakes that graduate students are making along with issues of academic integrity such as unintentional plagiarism. We strongly encourage all new graduate students to attend this event. UMBC's faculty and administrators have asked the campus to increase opportunities for students to learn about academic integrity because there are too many cases of plagiarism. We've learned that many of our new students never learned to cite correctly and now, as graduate students, they are incorrectly copying work that others have written and calling it their own. There are legal ramifications for this type of error. Please come to the seminar so that you can understand the difference between "citing" and illegal copying. You also need to see examples of plagiarism because you may be unintentionally breaking the law. Make sure that your reports, papers, and theses are not in violation of the law. This seminar will also cover common writing mistakes that graduate students have made in the past, along with those that graduate students continue to make in 2011.
