"Being Abroad, Learning from the Peaceworker Experience"

Fellow Peaceworkers will share their experiences working and living abroad for extended periods of time. Get to know the most rewarding and challenging aspects of their international experience in this "show and tell" session.

Fellow Peaceworkers will share their experiences working and living abroad for extended periods of time. Get to know the most rewarding and challenging aspects of their international experience in this "show and tell" session.
If you are interested in joining the Peaceworkers and
living a different experience abroad, while making a change in the
world, come and participate in this session. If you are considering taking a position (e.g., postdoctoral fellowship or faculty appointment) outside of the U.S., please come to this session to learn more about other cultures.

Speakers:
Dr. Joby Taylor: Dr. Taylor is currently the
Director of the Shriver Peaceworker Fellows Program, a graduate level
service-learning program for Returned Peace Corps Volunteers at UMBC. He
served in the Peace Corps as a school builder in Gabon, Africa.
Emily Tyler: Emily served in Mauritania,
where she taught English to middle school students, school faculty, and
young women at the Girls' Mentoring Center. She is currently a
master's student in Intercultural Communication at UMBC.
Whitney Swander: Whitney served in
Madagascar as an TEFL and Teacher Training Volunteer and in Ecuador as a
Youth and Families Development Volunteer, working with youth in
peer-lead education and service learning, as well as in education and
empowerment of youth with disabilities and their families. She is in the
master's program in Public Policy program at UMBC.
Renee Manneh: Renee served in the US
Peace Corps in Uganda from 2007 to 2009. During her service, she
developed programs for the community youth center and satellite youth
centers. She is a student at the School of Social Work at the University
of Maryland Baltimore, where her concentration is Management and
Community Organizing.
Kayla Keelan: Kayla served in Peace
Corps in Costa Rica, working in the Community Economic
Development field. Later on, she worked with the Waorani tribe in
Amazon,
Ecuador. In addition, she worked in Fuengirola, Spain at a Public High
School, involved with
developing a TEFL / Youth Development program. Currently, she is
studying a master´s degree in Instructional Systems Development at UMBC.
