Allyship: Supporting our LGBTQ+ Community
Diversity Session
Tuesday, January 23, 2018 · 12 - 1 PM
Fear and judgment arises when we don't fully seek to understand each other. In this interactive 1-hour session, we will learn about the definitions, differences, and distinctions of various LGBTQ+ identities and the current political and social challenges affecting this community. Additionally, you will have the opportunity to engage in a powerful dialogue of community members to come together and learn practices to help you become a more compassionate and effective ally.
In this workshop we will cover:
- Brief overview of the LGBTQ+ identities (what they are, definitions, differences and distinctions)
- Current challenges affecting this community - (general and political)
- Allyship as a verb - Ways to constantly work on being an ally
- Telling Our Stories - LGBTQ community and allies
- Q&A
This workshop will be co-facilitated by K. Jill Barr, Senior Assistant Dean, Graduate School Enrollment Management and Carlos Turcios, Program Associate for Diversity and Inclusion with Student Life's Mosaic Center for Culture and Diversity.
Space is limited and registration is required. Registration deadline is Thursday, January 18th!
