Between Elections: Coffee & Conversation - Education
Let’s discuss the political landscape with coffee (& tea)!
Tuesday, November 14, 2017 · 7 - 9 PM
How do we have conversations with people that we don’t always agree with? How do we reach across the aisle to find common ground? What are the local issues relevant to you and the UMBC community? Turning on the television, streaming an online news source, or reading the national paper may not be enough to effectively make a change.
SGA is excited to continue Coffee & Conversation as a part of our Between Elections series. Our vision is to bring all members of the UMBC community together to engage in a broader political process. By being exposed to differing opinions and solutions to challenges affecting us now, we will become more active citizens and identify real solutions together.
Joined by panelists across the political spectrum active in political analysis, our panel will answer questions followed by free-form discussion. This month’s topic: education. Should higher education be free for all US citizens? How are current policies from the current administration directly affecting us at UMBC? Can we justify spending a disproportionate amount of taxpayer money on education compared to other government programs?
Coffee, tea, and other light refreshments will be served along with new perspectives.
Please RSVP to the invite by clicking the “I Can Attend” button below.
More about Between Elections: Formed after the successful 2016 Election Night Extravaganza, a nonpartisan committee of active members of the SGA and various political student organizations (College Republicans, College Democrats, the Humble Rumble, and UMBC Progressives), believe that as citizens we have a civic duty to be politically engaged in a broader political process which includes engaging in civil discourse.
