Dorothy (Dottie) Caplan, the Executive Administrative Assistant II to the Dean of the College of Natural and Mathematical Sciences, will retire at the end of June. The UMBC community is cordially invited to a Retirement Open House that is being held in her honor on Thursday, June 22 from 2:30 to 5:30 p.m. in the Fireside Lounge, Commons Building 3rd Floor at UMBC.
Dottie started her career at UMBC in 1997 as a secretary in the College of Arts and Sciences and moved to the College of Natural and Mathematical Sciences when it was established in 2005. She has made many friends during her 20-year career at UMBC due to her welcoming demeanor and thoughtful approach to shared governance. The recipient of the 2014-2015 Karen L. Wensch Endowment Award for Outstanding Non-Exempt Staff, Dottie has worked as a tireless advocate for the Non-Exempt Staff Senate (NESS) and recently served as NESS President. During her time at UMBC, Dottie has exemplified service to the University by encouraging support for the Maryland Charity Campaign, serving on the Smoke-Free Task Force, working on the Strategic Planning Steering Committee, helping with the Commencement and Welcome Week events, and mentoring new staff members.
