Fulbright Information Session (Pizza with Dr. Souders)
Learn about teaching/research overseas after UMBC
Research grants are geared toward mature, independent students capable of completing a research project during a ten-month period. Projects are encouraged in all disciplines. Applicants are expected to demonstrate how their presence in the host country is key to the success of their project. English-language sites, particularly the United Kingdom, Australia, and Ireland, are highly competitive. Language requirements vary, but the Fulbright Commission expects that recipients will have sufficient language skills to complete their research projects.
English Teaching Assistantships (ETAs) place participants in educational institutions ranging from middle schools to universities. ETA recipients teach English as a second language, as well as provide insights to U.S. culture, literature and history. ETA positions are available in more than 40 countries throughout the world. Requirements of knowledge of the host country language varies. Previous teaching experience is not required, but tutoring is looked upon favorably.
