|Using Bb to Help Students Take Responsibility for Learning|
|Using Adaptive Release to Implement Game-based Learning in Bb|
The adaptive release tool allows the course builder to control the release of content based on rules that govern who can see the content. We all know that we can control access to content based on dates, but adaptive release takes access control down to the individual or group of individuals level or controlling access based on pre-determined rules.
WHY CONTROL ACCESS?Suppose you have content that you want your students to view in a particular order and only after they have successfully completed certain course requirements. Adaptive release allows an instructor to post a course activity, or group of activites, with a definite completetion point, such as a quiz. The instructor can then set up a rule that would force completion of content before the student can move on. An example could be a folder or learning module that requires the student to:
- Review a recorded presentation
- Read associated materials
- Complete a quiz with a required minimum score
HOW DO I SET IT UP?When you click on the chevron to the right of any individual content item posted in blackboard, you will see "Adaptive Release" (and "Adaptive Release: Advanced") listed in the drop down menu.
Adaptive Release allows the instructor to limit access to individuals or groups of individuals.
Adaptive Release: Advanced allows the instructor to control access by creating rules for governing access to the content. Most rules are based on the student obtaining a required score or assessment attempt in the grade center before access is given.
