NICBR Exploring Careers in a Scientific Environment Symposium
Thursday, November 6, 2014
7:30 am – 5:00 pm
Fort Detrick – Transportation will be provided)
Students interested in careers in medical and biological research and biodefense should not miss this event sponsored by the National Interagency Confederation for Biological Research (NICBR), a partnership of government agencies with laboratories at Fort Detrick, including:
- US Army
- National Cancer Institute
- Department of Homeland Security
- Department of Agriculture
- US Navy
- National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases
- Centers for Disease Control and Prevention
The goal of the program is to present an overview of research being performed by the various NICBR partners, through presentations and laboratory tours, and to provide information on educational and employment opportunities.
During the morning, representatives of the various NICBR partner laboratories will introduce the types of potential career paths available at their agencies while describing research programs and opportunities for internships, fellowships and employment. After the morning presentations, participants will have the opportunity to chat with the speakers and obtain additional information during an informal lunch period. Participants will need to purchase their own lunch; a cafe is available on location for your convenience.
After lunch, there will be a panel Q&A session where participants will have the opportunity to obtain more info on career development. Some agencies will offer tours at their various laboratories (pre-registration for tours is required) in the afternoon.
Tours are open to both US and non-US citizens
Because of security concerns, it will be necessary for Fort Detrick to carry out standard "background checks," so all participants are required to REGISTER BY OCTOBER 24th:
STEP 1: All participants MUST register before the event at http://ncifrederick.cancer.gov/events/NECSES/default.asp.
The deadline for registration is October 24, 2014.
STEP 2 (Optional): Sign-Up to ride the bus http://careers.umbc.edu/news_events/ontheroad/nicbr_bus.php
